Friend of Graza: Manfredi Romano
Q: How do you describe yourself?
M: I'm Manfredi Romano, better known as DJ Tennis. I'm just a guy obsessed with music, art, photography, cycling, tennis, and food! Always chasing that perfect sound to make people move and feel something real. I've spent years blending genres, emotions, and experiences, trying to create moments that matter through different art forms and curating experiences. When I'm not behind the decks, you'll probably find me geeking out over good food or diving into something creative. Life's a mix of flavors and beats, and I'm just here to keep things interesting.
Q: Finish this sentence, cooking for me is..
M: An expression of love, a meditation, a mental escape from the everyday world, a medium to create community.
Q: Who are some of your top 5 music icons?
M: Aphex Twin, Kate Bush, Lucio Battisti, Oscar Peterson, and Nina Simone.
Q: Who are some of you top 5 culinary inspirations?
M: Owen Han, H. Woo Lee, Antonio Carluccio, Grant Achatz, and My Nonna.
Q: Favorite food-centric or food themed song right now?
M: Strawberry Fields Forever
Q: Where do you see the culinary and music world coming together at their best? At what intersection do they make the most impact?
M: Music and food are universal languages of emotion. They intertwine at that sweet spot where a single bite or a note can transport you to another time, stir memories, and evoke deep feelings. Together, they create an emotional landscape--one that nourishes not just the body, but the soul. When they come together, it's about connection--about bringing people to a place where every flavor and every sound tells a story.
Q: What's on the horizon for you?
M: In terms of music, I'm launching a new electronic music project called Tenashee this September with a long-time friend that exists at the intersection of audio and visual experience; we're working with a highly talented graphic artist called Maotik to create a unique experience for the show that blends the two art forms seamlessly.
In terms of food, my culinary event series, MunchieTown, has a number of moments I'm excited for- these include a special brunch in San Francisco with W Hotels at the end of September, a two-day takeover of KOKO Camden in London in October, a Michelin-starred charity dinner during an Amsterdam Dance Event, my own food truck at F1 Abu Dhabi, a number of restaurant takeovers in Ibiza in between, and others I'm sure I am forgetting I started MunchieTown just this year and already the project is coming to life in incredible ways with much more to come.
Right now, the only thing I truly need is more time to chase all the threads of my passions.
