Friend of Graza: Molly Ford

We talked with the floral artist about her favorite floral arrangements at the moment, edible florals, and the best trends in floral design right now!

Q: How do you describe yourself?

M: I love nature, art, my friends and family! I enjoy a beautiful home and a good glass of orange wine. I hope to be a peaceful and safe person to those around me. I also hope to create beauty in this world, giving space for others to relax and enjoy!

Q: Finish this sentence, cooking for me is...

M: Honestly, it's a little challenging, but the idea is so much fun. I would love to learn more about the art of cooking, it's a goal to be confident in the kitchen!

Q: What are some of your top 5 favorite flowers at the moment?

M: My all-time favorite flower would be an orchid. I love a new flower every season though! Currently, I am very drawn to the cafe au lait dinnerplate dahlia and a rubinato cosmos. Pair those with sweet peas, peonies, and garden roses; and you'll have the perfect arrangement in my mind!

Q: Where do you find inspiration for your floral design?

M: I am always happy when walking through a garden! I aim to create art that complements nature and invites wonder. I am inspired by texture and blending colors throughout my work. I would also love to incorporate elements in my arrangements that you might find in a garden, like herbs, vegetables, and fruits. Think of a fragrant stem of mint with a pear attached to a brand, mixed with delicate flowers.

Q: What is one thing you always have at a dinner party?

M: A beautiful stemmed glass to cheers my loved ones with!

Q: Any favorite edible florals?

M: I love cornflowers! That blue is so vibrant and captivating!

Q: Best trends in floral design right now?

M: I have always loved an overgrown garden. I feel the industry fully embracing that design as a current trend. Everyone wants ground arrangements with grasses and wildflowers. I am here for it!

Q: Where do you see the culinary and floral world coming together at their best? At what intersection do they make the most impact?

M: Floral design starts with nature, we are using elements grown from the earth by farmers who care. It's the same within the culinary world. Using resources from the earth to bring beauty to the table!

Q: What's on the horizon for you?

M: Fall is one of our busier times! It's Fashion Week, wedding season, and then holiday parties. I am also launching a jewelry collaboration with a lovely company soon! It's still in the works but I'm thrilled to share more this fall!
