Daily Extra Virgin Olive Oil Shot

The olive oil shot isn't magic, but it can add a polyphenol pep in your step!

The Extra Virgin Olive Oil Shot

The olive oil shot has gone from a Mediterranean grandmother's wisdom to full-blown viral morning ritual! Here's everything you need to know.

What is an EVOO shot?
Exactly what it sounds like: about a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil, taken straight, usually first thing in the morning with a squeeze of lemon. No blender, no powder, no 14-step routine.

EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL SHOT RECIPE (1 Serving)
1) 1 tbsp Drizzle extra virgin olive oil
2) A squeeze of fresh lemon juice (about 1/2 tsp)
Instructions: pour Drizzle into a small glass, add the lemon on top, and take it in one go. YUM!

Tips for Taking
1) Use good extra virgin olive oil, like Graza's Drizzle! Fresh, high-polyphenol EVOO tastes grassy and peppery.
2) Expect the throat tickle. That peppery catch at the back of your throat comes from a compound called oleocanthal. Chefs use it as a freshness indicator.
3) Room temperature. Cold oil gets thick and waxy. Keep it room temp!

FAQ
How much? One tablespoon (15ml) should do the trick!
When? Morning on an empty stomach is the common ritual, but no strong evidence says timing matters.
Can I use regular olive oil? You'll lose the benefits because the refining that happens to non-extra virgin olive oil strips out the polyphenols. Extra virgin only!

The Takeaway
The olive oil shot isn't magic, but it can add a polyphenol pep in your step! So why not get a good bottle of EVOO you actually like the taste of, keep it on the counter, and see if this new shot routine sticks?
